Back in 2012 and 2013 I walked the Pacific Electric Railway line diagonally through Long Beach (see here and here). One of my most interesting finds was two sections of track that haven't been dug up or covered over (see here and here).
Ever since taking those walks I've wanted to expand outside of Long Beach and tackle a longer stretch of the old red car lines. If you take a look at this map you can clearly see both the Long Beach section and a lengthy span from Watts to Santa Ana, my next destination.
I will be tracking the whole route via GPS and documenting everything live via Instagram. I've figured out that this walk will definitely take me longer than a day, so I will be researching lodging somewhere around the midpoint of the route, probably in Cerritos. I will be posting more updates in the coming days and weeks, but right now my goal is to do this October 15 and 16 of this year. I would love to hear any input anyone has to offer, and I will definitely be incorporating some type of collaborative elements, so stay tuned!
